Join us for an unforgettable experience at the Free Range BJJ Training Camp; a transformative 5-day camp nestled in the breathtaking beauty of the mountains of Samoa.

Combining daily movement, breath and meditation practices with daily Jiu-Jitsu training sessions, this camp offers a unique opportunity to enhance your physical and mental well-being while immersing yourself in the rich culture of Samoa.

This camp is designed to take you on a journey of self-discovery through martial arts and mindfulness practices. Evolve your personal practice, increase your knowledge, connect with like-minded BJJ practitioners, all within the serene surroundings of Tiapapata, Samoa.


Each day of our camp will begin with a gentle movement and mindfulness practices; you will learn to harness the power of breath and begin to quiet the mind.

After breakfast, we’ll move into our daily Jiu-Jitsu sessions of which each days concepts and technical positions will build from the day before. No matter your game you will gain invaluable strategic insights and technical adjustments tailored to you, so you can take your training to a new level!

This Free Range Camp will be set in the mountains above Apia, Samoa at the Kalika Dojo. Just 20 minutes drive from Samoa’s capital city and located off the Cross Island Road, an important route that passes through scenic and culturally significant areas.

Kalika Dojo is a newly established martial arts training facility located at the Tiapapata Arts Centre, a unique place of learning where traditional and contemporary arts and crafts are taught and made.

Who is the camp for?

  • 18+. Under 18s must be accompanied by a guardian.

  • Suitable for any level of experience in BJJ/grappling - prior experience a must.

  • Any level of fitness can attend, but be prepared to work no matter your level.

  • This camp is not just for active BJJ competitors, high performers, or elite level athletes. You just need a desire to improve and a willingness to learn.

  • Anyone wanting to improve their skills, renew their dedication and discipline to training, and curious to expand their knowledge.

  • Anyone wanting to build community and connect with fellow BJJ practitioners.

  • Anyone wanting to find some space to get out of the city, spend time in nature, and experience Samoan culture.

  • 5 day training camp in the mountains of Samoa. Full access to the whole camp, all training sessions, workshops, and price is inclusive of accommodation.

  • Daily adventures and sightseeing, plus authentic cultural experiences (optional, and small extra cost).

  • Fresh local produce and meals available at on-site cafe (at own cost), or cooking facilities available in accommodation.

  • Limited tickets - only 12 places available for this camp.

  • Accommodation included for arrival Sunday June 28th, check out Friday 3rd July.

FAQ’s

  • You are responsible for your own travel and arrival/departure dates to/from Samoa.

    However, the training camp will run from the early morning of Monday 29th June through to lunch on Friday 3rd July.

    Accommodation is booked onsite for the evenings of Sunday 28th June - Thursday July 2nd. Check-in Sunday, checkout morning of Friday 3rd July (time TBC).

    You will need to find your own accommodation for the night of Friday 3rd July and any further time you choose to spend in Samoa.

  • All training sessions will be held at Kalika Dojo.

    Kalika Dojo is a newly established martial arts training facility located at the Tiapapata Arts Centre, a unique place of learning where traditional and contemporary arts and crafts are taught and made.

    Accommodation is onsite at the Art Centre’s Air BnB accommodation. Sharing of units will be with 1-2 others.

    Tiapapata provides a serene and peaceful atmosphere in the hills above Apia, Samoa’s main city.

    Take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience Samoa, train Jiu-Jitsu, and experience Samoan culture.

    Tiapapata is approx 15-20 minutes from Apia, and 1 hour from Faleolo International airport. Small local shops available within walking distance.

  • We recommend flying to/from Faleolo International airport.

    For transport to/from the airport to Tiapapata Arts Centre we may be able to arrange pick up/drop off depending on flight times - TBA.

    There are also shared van shuttle services that can be booked or hire cars available at the airport if you want full flexibility.

    Recommended is the shared van shuttle service Autobots, who have a special rate with the Arts Centre of $30 Tala per person from the airport.

    For our group activities and travel around the island we will hire a 10 seater van for the duration of camp.

  • 5 Days of:

    • Daily movement, breath and meditation practices to start the day.

    • Daily 2-3 hours of BJJ training

    • A special Judo for BJJ session with Samoa’s Olympic representative, Peniamina Percival.

    • Option to join in with daily group adventures and exploration of some of Samoa’s beautiful places (small extra cost may be required for entry).

    • ‍ Experience Samoan culture onsite at the Arts Centre. ‍

    • Accommodation onsite - shared Air BnB units.

    • O‍ptional extra training in Kalika Dojo’s regular evening class schedule, including Judo, BJJ, MMA, and Yoga (just 10 Tala extra per session).

    • Airport transfer to and from Tiapapata Arts Centre (TBC based on flight times).

    • Connect with local BJJ community and the Kalika Dojo team, & with practitioners from around the world. ‍

  • You will need to arrange your own flights and travel to and from Samoa.

    Accommodation is only for the duration of camp - see check in / check out details above.

    Food and meals are not included in your camp ticket. Wild Foods Cafe is onsite the Arts Centre and provides nutritious and affordable meals, coffee and tea etc. The accommodation also has a gas stove, toaster and fridge so you can buy and cook your own food.

    There may be some small extra costs associated with exploring the Island.

  • This event is not suitable for people with no previous BJJ experience.

    But, beginners are welcome! We were all white belts once ;)

    As long as you have a few months under your belt, you will be able to fully participate and people at every experience level will walk away with new ideas and new skills.

    We do not expect you to have any prior experience in meditation, but if you do, then that's great you'll be able to go at your own level and pace and again everyone will benefit from the new perspective and intensive training period.

    General outline of Training Days - Monday 29th June - Friday 3rd July:

    • 7:30 - 9:00am - Movement & Meditation 

    • 9:00-10:30am - Break 

    • 10:30-12:30/1:30pm - BJJ

    • > 1:30pm - Lunch, Rest, Adventure (optional)  

    Option to join in Kalika Dojo’s evening classes (all classes 10 Tala extra).

    • Monday Judo - 6:00pm

    • Tuesday Womens Judo and Self Defence - 5:30pm  

    • Wednesday BJJ - 6:00pm 

    • Thursday Yoga - 6:00pm / MMA 7:15pm 

    • Saturday BJJ - 10:00am 

  • This event is 18+ years. However, minors 13+ are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • For sure, all training and sessions are optional. We are here to test and push our limits, but we also need to honour ourselves, notice where we are at, and when it’s wise to take a break and keep ourselves safe and injury free.

    That goes for all activities, training, morning sessions etc. All sessions and activities are optional.

  • The Tiapapata Arts Centre has a variety of accommodation options they run through Air BnB, including small units / tiny homes / treehouses.

    These will be booked by our group, and we will be sharing them among ourselves. So you will likely be sharing facilities with 1-2 others.

    The Tiapapata Art Centre is a unique place of learning where traditional and contemporary arts and crafts are taught and made.

    First established in 1989, the art centre is located off the Cross Island Road, also known as Falealili Street. The property comprises three acres and features Airbnb units to accommodate visiting guests, gardens, a multi-purpose art studio and kiln room, an art gallery, a café and a traditional Samoan meeting house.

  • This may be able to be arranged if the Tiapapata Arts Centre has the availability.

    Get in touch as early as possible to check the availability.

    • A minimum deposit of $150 is required to secure your place & is non-refundable.

    • An invoice with the remaining balance will be sent to your email, payment is due 6 weeks prior to event commencement.

    • Full ticket payment is due six weeks prior to the camp starting.

    • For cancellations prior to 4 weeks before camp a 50% refund is available for those who have paid in full. No refund for deposit only.

    • For cancellations within 4 weeks of camp there is no refund available for either deposit only or for those who have paid in full.

    • Ticket transfers are available, but we require written confirmation from both parties via email.

    • We reserve the right to cancel the event should minimum numbers for the event to run not be met. In this instance, we will refund you the amount paid.
